I was talking to my 14 year old daughter Madison the other day about Halloween. We were laughing about how strange a holiday it is. Consider the following...
1. You encourage your kids to visit the homes of strangers
2. You encourage your kids to take candy from said strangers
3. Your encourage your kids to threaten the strangers ("Trick or treat" is a threat)
4. You encourage your kids to put on clothes disguising their true identity
5. You encourage your kids to wander the neighborhood in the dark while wearing their disguise
6. You encourage your kids to consume massive amounts of refined sugar
ANY other day of the year any one of the above would be a punishable offense.
Not Halloween.
Perhaps that is why it is so much fun.

don't forget girls are allowed to dress like hoochies for no other reason than that it is halloween
Halloween is my least favorite "holiday" of the whole bunch. The one and only thing I like about it is making home made costumes, of which I was unable to do this year for the first time because I had so much going on in October.
But I didn't realize Trick or Treat was a threat? I thought it was a question, i.e. "Would you please bless me with either a trick or a treat?"
I actually have some students that do not recognize Halloween or celebrate it. I found that interesting.
I only have two questions. What is a Hoochie?? How much of the kid's candy did you eat? I have to admit I have been grazing on the leftovers, and I don't need that.
Old School
Amy-Threat= (trick) Do you want me to egg your car or do you want to give me candy (treat)?
Hey Old School- From the urban dictionary...
. hoochie
a female who appears to match a set of characteristics including: trashy, often inappropriately tight dress (with or without pudge overflowing waistband); eyebrows shaved and penciled back on in dramatic fashion; heavy, mostly monotonic makeup with dark lipstick; large, gaudy, costume-grade jewlery...
Yeah, I brought more candy home from the store on Nov. 1 because what was $4 a bag became .50 the following day. Deb thought I was nuts but I cannot deny the Reeces ghosts!
The part about "with or without pudge overflowing waistband" in the description of a hoochie is particularly hilarious. Muffin top! I'll explain what muffin top is to Grandpa as well...
Thanks Rachel. Every little bit helps. BTW Deb and I are on facebook now. Look us up.
Maybe it means you shouldn't be participating in it at all. It is a holiday of demons and does not glorify God at all. You just pointed out some of the negative things seen from a human level. Consider the spiritual aspects of pagan holidays. The church looks just like the world now days, doesn't it? What is it teaching the children?
